Orders and Medals from the Collection of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve

The collection of awards was formed by the museum employees mainly in the 1950-1980s.

An interesting collection of awards, including orders and medals of both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, is kept in the holdings of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. It is rather diverse and it shows different stages of history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The collection is especially rich in the decorations of the Great Patriotic War. Visitors could see Superior Soviet awards – the Cross of St. George and the Order of Glory, first Soviet orders and medals, the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union, awards of the participants of the Great Patriotic War, including the rare Medal of Ushakov, post-war awards and jubilee medals. Awards given to mothers of many children were displayed at the exhibition along with orders and medals for feats of arms and work achievements.

The presented Russian awards were various in their appearance and meaning. Every one was a monument of our history and culture telling about the glorious past, great victories, feats, work for the welfare and to the good of the Motherland.

The Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve expresses gratitude to all residents of Kirillov who have handed over their family heirlooms to the museum.
