85th Anniversary of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve
Chronicle of the main events
1924-2009
1924 The museum – a branch of the Cherepovets district museum – was opened within the closed Kirillo-Belozersky monastery.
1926 The Kirllov museum became independent. The Ferapontov museum-monastery was affiliated to it.
1929 The first exposition about the history of the district and the monastery was opened in the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the Refectory. They began inventory books and equipped first repositories.
1935 The Kirillo-Belozersky museum was reorganized in the Kirillov district museum.
1956 The Kirillov local history museum was reorganized in the Kirillov historical and architectural museum.
1968 The Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve was established.
1970 The town of Kirillov was included into the “Lists of cities and other settlements of the RSFSR with architectural monuments, ensembles and complexes which are moments of national culture and which have preserved ancient cultural layers that are of archeological and historical value”.
1975 The museum branch in the Ferapontovo village was named “The Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes”.
1985 The museum employees were awarded the 1st degree Diploma of the RSFSR Ministry of Culture for achievements in the All-Russian Show on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
1991 The museum first started to receive foreign tourists travelling along the Volga-Baltic Sea Water Way. Tourists from the Federal Republic of Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the USA were the first foreign visitors in the museum.
1992 All architectural monuments of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve were included in the area of the National Park “Russian North” established in the Kirillov district.
1994 The first issue of the local history almanac “Kirillov” from the series “Ancient Towns of the Vologda Region” was published.
1997 The Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve was included in the List of the most precious objects of cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia.
1999 The museum employees were awarded the Medal of Pushkin for the important contribution to the preservation of culture.
2000 The ensemble of the Ferapontov monastery with the Dionisy’s frescoes was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
2003 The first conference of local history “The Kirillov’s Readings” was held in the museum.
The museum employees were awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Culture Department in the Vologda Oblast Government for active scientific and methodological support of the municipal museums located in the zone assigned to the Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve.
2004 The first issue of the museum periodical “Reporter of the Kirillo-Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve” was published.
2005 The icons from the collection of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve were presented at international exhibitions in the USA and Italy.
The museum hosted a regional scientific conference “Preservation and Use of the Wooden Architecture Monuments”.
2006 The icons from the collection of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve were displayed at the exhibition “Russia” in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Spain).
2007 The exposition “Antiquities of Belozersk district. History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” was opened on the ground floor of the Refectory. Museum employees who made it (G.O. Ivanova, M.N. Sharomazov, T.S. Zolotova, M.A. Vinogradova, A.I. Smirnov, V.A. Mazaletskaya, L.M. Kharlapenkova) were awarded the State Prize of the Vologda Oblast Government.
New exhibition halls were opened in the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the Refectory after its restoration had been completed.
2008 An offsite meeting of the Seventh All-Russian Congress of the Agencies for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments was held in the museum.
2009 The seventh issue of the local history almanac “Kirillov” from the series “Ancient Towns of the Vologda Region” was published.
The official website of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve was launched.
A charity concert of the Fifth Moscow International Festival of Children and Youth Creative Activity “Native Land” took place in the museum.
The icons of the Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe from the village of Borodava were presented.
The architectural ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery became the winner of the regional contest “Wonders of the Vologda Land”.
The military and historical festival “Kirillo-Belozersky Siege” was held in the museum.
The Church of the Prophet Elijah in the village of Tsypino was opened after restoration.
