History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

M. Sharomazov, the director of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve, and S. Smirnova, the scientific secretary, took part in the session of the Committee from June 26 till June 28.

Svetlana Smirnova says:

«We were interested in the problems associated with the preservation state of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. They discussed the preservation of 105 natural and cultural Sites. The experts of the advisory bodies of the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed the decisions on the preservation state of the Sites. These decisions had been already published and had to be considered and approved bythe World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. Every requirement for the member-state was considered by the representatives of the states which are the members of the World Heritage Committee. They didn’t always accept the decisions of the experts, suggested new formulations of the decisions on the preservation state of the Sites.

Unfortunately the Russian Sites carried over for consideration were removed from the agenda. Eleonora Mitrofanova, the Chairperson of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Committee, suggested that the Russian Sites should be eliminated from the agenda as the Sites not requiring consideration and said that the Committee tries to not consider the Sites of the state receiving the Committee. However the participation in this conference of the global scale is useful for skill improvement in the management of the Site of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage “The Ensemble of the Ferapontov monastery”. Irina Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO, made a pointed reference to the role of the local government authorities and communities in the preservation of the World Heritage Sites and to the necessity of the increase of their participation in the conferences of the UNESCO Committee. The consideration of the preservation state of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “The Ensemble of the Ferapontov monastery” will be held at the37th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in Cambodia in June 2013».
