The Kirillo-Belozersky monastery was founded on the lands of the former Belozersky principality in the fourteenth century. It participated in the political events of the 15th -17th centuries. During the Polish-Lithuanian invasion the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery showed resistance to the enemy. The first troops of the interventionists appeared in Beloozero in 1612. In December enemy groups led by Bobovsky and the colonel Pesetsky besieged the monastery and attacked it. Riflemen being in the monastery, monastic peasants, servants and monks showed stubborn resistance. As a result many interventionists were killed and the basic enemy forces went away from the walls of the monastery.
