Implementation of the project “It is My Town” that was to attract attention to historical and cultural sites of Kirillov began a year ago. It was initiated by the activists of the Youth Centre “Alfa” with the assistance of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve. On October 10, on the eve of the first anniversary, the authors of the project summed up first results and shared their plans for the future. The event was held in the conference hall of the museum. A.Y. Kotov, Mayor of Kirillov; Ilya Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, and local residents took part in it.
The main venue for all events and the main information resource of the project was the group “Our Favourite Historical Town of Kirillov” in the social networking site “Vkontakte” - http://vk.com/moy_kirillov. Information about a new event connected with the history or modern life of the town was placed there every month. The first in the list was the action “Selfie against a background of the historical monument”. Local people, including Sergey Usov, head of the Kirillov district, and Andrey Kotov, Mayor of Kirillov, joined it. Several photo contests and quizzes were held in the group during the year. Some of the events took place in the Youth Centre “Alfa”. Besides, interesting materials in various sections were regularly posted in the group: video tours, stories about famous fellow-townsmen and heroes of the Great Patriotic War and so on.
The initiative of the senior pupils of Kirillov has been already appreciated not only by local inhabitants and countrymen living in other cities of Russia, but also by the Youth Parliament of the Vologda region: the project took the third place in the contest “The Great 1940s” in the nomination “Activity of children’s and youth organizations on patriotic education of minors”. On Friday, October 9, the initiators and curators were awarded letters of gratitude and souvenirs from the Kirillov District Administration.
According to S.A. Karatshova, director of the Youth Centre “Alfa” and head of the project, residents of other small towns also became interested in this idea and would like to start such a project in their small Motherland. As of the youth of Kirillov, they are not going to stop at what has already been accomplished: new events are being organized at present.
