The shooting of the film tentatively entitled “Monk and Demon” began in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve on September 1. It is directed by Nikolay Dostal. This event became the most popular news from the filmland in the Vologda region.
The genre of this film is a “fantastic comedy”. The action takes place in the first half of the 19th century. The main hero’s name is Ivan Semyonovich. He retires to a cloister where he is subjected to temptation of the demon in human disguise named Legion. Nikolay Dostal tells the following about this film, “Humour, grotesque and even farce – these are genre components of the artistic material of the movie”. The script was written by Yuri Arabov, the chief cameraman is Levan Kapanadze. Timofey Tribuntsev, Georgy Fetisov, Boris Kamorzin and Roman Madyanov play the leading roles.
The first shooting day in the Kirillov district took place on August 30, the film crew worked in the outskirts of Ferapontovo. Then they moved to the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum where they would work till late September. There is some information that the ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery will be also used in the shooting process. It is known that in general, the film will be shot till the middle of November 2015. The picture crew will go to the ancient city of Petra (Jordan), the coast of the Dead Sea and the Crimea.
By the way, Nikolay Dostal shared his plans about shooting of the film “Monk and Demon” in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery during the Art Festival “The Property of Republic” in 2013. The director already worked in the museum several years before shooting the TV movie “Schism” about the fate of disgraced Patriarch Nikon.
The shooting of the movie “Monk and Demon” is being carried out by the Production Company of Igor Tolstunov (PROFIT Ltd) and the Film Company “Etalon-Film” thanks to the financial backing of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. It is planned to complete production in spring 2016.
