Dear visitors, an opening ceremony of the new display about army general Yuri Nikolaevich Baluyevsky, outstanding combat leader of Russia, will take place in the Museum of Town and District History (at 103 Gagarin Street) on September 1. It will begin at 2 p.m. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
The list of famous natives of the Kirillov district includes 16 generals, but only one of them managed to become Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (2004-2008). Yuri Nikolaevich Baluyevsky studied in the Kirillov Secondary School, leaving it in 1965. His life and military career are an example of honest and selfless service of the country.
The Kirillov district is proud of the fact that Y.N. Baluyevsky has risen to the highest pitch of greatness that only a few out of hundreds of thousands of officers can do. The general doesn’t forget his childhood friends, classmates and teachers and always visits the town of his youth. In July 2015, he handed over his full-dress uniform and a complex of documents and photographs to the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve. These materials will be presented at the new exhibition in the Museum of Town and District History.
