The joint meeting of the Public and the Research and Methodology Councils of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve was held on Friday. Discussion of the Concept of Preservation of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery was the main issue on the agenda. The draft of this important document was presented by S.B. Kulikov, chief architect of the Federal State Budgetary Unitary Enterprise “Central Scientific and Restoration Design Workshops”.
Elaborating the concept, they carried out historical, archival, architectural, archeological, engineering and technical researches. The specialists did a huge job thanks to which they gathered the most complete and topical information about the state of the monuments of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. These data give a chance to speak about the prospects of further development of the area with confidence. One of the sections of the concept is about recommendations concerning the questions of formation of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and its spiritual component in the history of the Russian state, restoration of architectural monuments, methods of provision of archeological digs, preservation of grave stones of “crude stone” of the 17th century, heat supply variants of the ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Besides, according to the concept, the following buildings are to get a status of the cultural heritage monuments of federal importance: the People’s House, the Kazan Cathedral, the House of the Tserkovnitskys and the Kazan Chapel.
It is worth noting that the concept takes into account that fact that there is a functional monastery within the architectural ensemble. Moreover, a lot of attention is paid to social and economic development of Kirillov in general. In the course of the project presentation, the participants of the meeting asked questions, expressed their opinions, and made their own suggestions. As a result, the members of the Public Council unanimously decided to approve the elaborated draft of the concept taking into account all expressed remarks.
