History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

You serve the important and noble purpose of spiritual and cultural enlightenment, the purpose of preserving the memory of many centuries for our descendants. You have managed to turn several generations of Vologda’s residents to cultural values and to train a cohort of highly skilled museum employees within the years of fruitful work. I thank you for preservation and continuation of glorious traditions established by the founders of the first museums in the Vologda region in the late 19th – early 20th centuries. I wish you health and prosperity, active and fruitful activity and new interesting projects. Yours respectfully, Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov”.

One more congratulation was sent from the Union of Museums of Russia. M.B. Piotrovsky, president of the organization, director general of the State Hermitage, noted in his letter, “…we cannot help thinking on this day how high the expectations of the society connected with the museum affairs are, how important the richest historical and moral experience contained in the evidences of the past that we keep is for our citizens”.

We accepted congratulations from our colleagues, researchers, friends and people who had visited Kirillov once during the whole day. Some of them were posted in the social networking sites.

In comparison with other professional holidays, the International Museum Day is always celebrated not privately. Interesting programs are prepared for visitors on this day. They participate in them free of charge. The action “Night at the Museum” is one of such events.
