History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The display “70th Anniversary of the Great Victory!” was opened in the Cultural Centre of Ferapontovo on May 1. It is a joint project of the employees of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes and residents of the village of Ferapontovo.

Such exhibitions are staged not for the first time. The museum has been actively cooperating with local people for several years. It resulted in such displays as “Faces of the Village”, “Children of the Village”, “Ferapontovo in the 20th-Century Photos” and others. They were based on the materials of the photo archives presented on certain subjects.

2015 is a special year for our country – we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. It doesn’t matter how many decades have passed, we mustn’t forget about the cities and villages reduced to ashes, the homewfront workers who bore the brunt of the war years, about millions of fallen soldiers, the spavined people who went though the war, the destruction of invaluable cultural monuments. Nobody and nothing can minimize the greatness of the people’s feat and the victory over fascism of world-wide importance.

The exhibition presents portraits of the war veterans who went to the front from Ferapontovo and neighbouring villages in 1941. A.V. Andreev, Hero of the Soviet Union, was also among them. The pictures of the rallies held in different years on May 9 get us to the atmosphere of the holiday: these are veterans near the walls of the Ferapontov Monastery; in this picture, they are laying flowers at the monument to the Unknown Soldier unveiled in the outskirts of the village. These photographs give us a chance to get to the Soviet time, to the post-perestroika period, or to the present day when you cannot meet anybody of those people depicted in the pictures. But our conscience and duty to the people who have died and have gone through the war will not allow us to forget about this tragic page of the chronicle of our country.
