History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The quiz “Turning Pages of the Great Patriotic War” war organized in the museum for ninth-formers of the Kirillov School on the threshold of Victory Day. It was prepared by students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture under the direction of V.L. Nuzhina and employees of the Department of Visitor Relations.


Two teams were to display their knowledge on the Great Patriotic War history. The game consisted of several rounds: boys and girls answered questions that were asked in different forms and guessed the wartime melodies. A.N. Repina, head of the Department of Visitor Relations, and T.N. Kotyasheva, teacher of history in the Kirillov School, were the judges of the competition. The senior pupils proved that they knew the above-mentioned subject very well. Both teams coped with all the tasks. Thus, friendship and good knowledge won.



There are just several days left till Victory Day. The action “Let Us Never Forget” marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War is due to start in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve on May 7. The exhibition “Wartime Letters and Photographs” will be opened in the conference hall at 15:00. After it, visitors will be able to enjoy Elena Antonova’s program “From Parting to Parting”. This action will last till late June and will consist of some large events, including the First Russian and Chinese Festival of Russian Song.
