History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

Monk’s cell

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Grant for festival

400 thousand rubles will be given for organization of the Festival of Historical Reenactment “Kirillo-Belozersky Siege”. It claimed a win in the contest of the Russian Military Historical Society that included two nominations: the festivals marking the 70^th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and other epochs. The commission considered over 60 applications from the organizers of the festivals of historical reenactment. As a result, ten winners in each nomination were determined. The festival in Kirillov is also among them.

Vyacheslav Nalimov, organizer of the festival, thinks that the victory in such a contest shows the recognition of the event at the All-Russian level. But in spite of the grant, this year’s festival will be held in the same format without any changes. According to the organizers, the grant will cover only one fifth of all expenses. Most of them will be defrayed by the participants and organizers again.

It is worth reminding that the Festival of Historical Reenactment “Kirillo-Belozersky Siege” will take place for the eighth time. It is scheduled for June 13 and 14. This event invites everybody to get to the atmosphere of the Time of Troubles.

The Poles will probably join in the reenactment and exhibition performances this year. Negotiations are being carried on with them now.
