History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

Monk’s cell

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Application period for contests of video films and essays about Great Patriotic War ends

You can apply for participation in the contests of video films and essays held on the occasion of the 70^th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War till April 30. You have just a few days to bring or to send your works to the museum.

1. Contest of video films

The contest subject: “Great Patriotic War in History of My Family”.

Participants: everybody who wants.

You can use any available means to make your video (multimedia presentations, electronic photo albums, video films). It is to last for 7 minutes. You can use special programs and tools when shooting and cutting your film. It is to be in electronic format.

Applications and contest works can be sent by post to the Department of Visitor Relations in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, Kirillov, 161100, or by e-mail: order.kirmuseum@mail.ru.

We will inform you about the exact time and venue for summing up later. Best works will be placed in the electronic recourses of the museum.

2. Contest of essays

The contest subject: “Great Patriotic War in History of My Family”.

Participants: pupils of general education institutions in the Vologda region

Essays are to be printed in Russian. The volume of the work is to be not more than 2 sheets of paper of A4 format. The line spacing is 1 cm.

You are to write the following information on the title page:

- title of the essay;

- name, patronymic name and surname of the author;

- name of the educational institution;

- home address with the postal code and telephone number;

- name, patronymic name and surname of the research advisor;

The works are to meet the following criteria:

- correspondence of the content and subject of the essay;

- correctness of the facts;

- consistency of the statement;

- competence;

- sincerity, non-standard approach to the subject development.

Prize-winners of the contest and their research advisors will be given diplomas, letters of gratitude and souvenirs. We will inform you about the exact time and venue for an award ceremony later.
