A book is the best friend of people within dozens of centuries. Its form was changed many times within this long period.
The first books were just clay tablets, scrolls or just separate sheets of metal, birch bark and so on with some information written on them. Later they got binding and texts were written on paper. Manuscripts were not necessary any more when printing-presses were introduced.
Today, in the 21st century, electronic books are popular. They remind us of those clay tablets in form and paper editions with a cover in content. But the previous forms of books are not history. Their value increases with time. They become not only sources of information, but also museum items that can tell visitors about their epoch.
You will be able to see some ancient books and electronic versions of the early printed books and manuscripts and to learn about their history during the action “Night at the Museum” in Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. It is scheduled for May 16. The presentation of the articles from the museum holdings will be held in the parvis of the Refectory at 6 p.m. Admission is free. We are looking forward to seeing you!
