History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Fairy tales and epics, folk songs and humorous rhymes, live music and sand animation – can all this be united in one event? It turns out that it is possible.


The participants of the 14th Moscow Easter Festival of Valery Gergiev presented the concert program “Popular Prints” to residents of Kirillov. Both adults and children were interested in what was happening on the scene.


People’s Artist of Russia Viktor Nikitin and musician Olga Yegorova were masters of ceremonies. They told the spectators about the adventures of Foma and Eryoma, the birds Alkonost, Syrin and Gamayun, the cunning cat Vaska, Russian bogatyr Ilya Muromets. The ancient stories were accompanied with music compositions executed by the soloists of the ensemble “Russian Rhapsody” and sand scenes created by animation artist Alina TrofimovaMarina Korchagina sang folk songs and humorous rhymes. People were charmed with what they saw and heard.


The audience extended a warm welcome to the Moscow guests. Local inhabitants already knew some of them thanks to the previous performances. For example, Yevgeny Volchkov, artistic director of the ensemble “Russian Rhapsody”, and gusli player Pavel Lukoyanov took part in the action “Night at the Museum 2014”. Young spectators will also remember this concert because they have got a chance to create their own sand pictures.


The Fourth Easter Festival “Low Sunday” held from April 12 to 22 is over. But the museum plans to organize a lot of interesting events in future. The next ones will be about the main date of the year - the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Their program has already been posted on the website.
