History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Application period for contest of drawings about Great Patriotic War ends

You can apply for participation in the contest of drawings held on the occasion of the 70^th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War till April 17. You have just a few days to bring or to send your works to the museum.

The contest subject: “Great Patriotic War in History of My Family”.

Participants: children aged 7 to 18.

Drawings are to be painted in various techniques and genres. Their format is to be either A4 or A3. You can use any material to create them (paints, ink, pencils, paper, cardboard, and so on).

You are to attach a separate sheet of paper with the following information to your picture: its title, the name of the author, his or her age, the name of the educational institution, the name of its head, a contact telephone number.

Results will be summed up on April 28, 2015. We will inform you about the exact time and venue for an award ceremony later. Winners and their teachers will be given diplomas, letters of gratitude and prizes.

The contest will also result in an exhibition of the participants’ drawings.

We also remind you of two more contests with the same subject - “Great Patriotic War in History of My Family”. Everybody can join in them creating video films or essays. Applications for these contests will be accepted till April 30.
