“Several series of the seventh season of the popular series “Game of Thrones”, one of the most successful television projects in the fantasy genre, will be shot in the Vologda region. The production team will come to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery this summer and will spend some days there” - one of yesterday’s news on the website of the information agency “SeverInfo” began with these words.
Readers were certainly surprised at this report. To dispel all their doubts once and for all, they mentioned the press-service of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve as the source of this information. In particular, one of the museum employees was cited, “David Benioff, script writer and producer of the series, called us yesterday evening. He asked to arrange shooting in our monastery. The producer said that he had seen the monastery and Lake Siverskoye in the picture of his friend who had visited Kirillov in summer. He was amazed with its beauty and understood that he would like to shoot several series there. They will be about the battle of two fortresses. We can’t say anything else”.
This news was quickly spread in the social networking sites. The users’ reaction was quite opposite. Some of them expressed doubts regarding truth of the information; the others believed and joined one of two groups – those who were pleased and displeased.
However, we have to report that the above-mentioned news was an April Fools’ joke of the information agency “SeverInfo”. Negotiations about shooting of the series in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery are not carried on at present.
The series “Game of Thrones” is one of the largest big-budget projects of the modern American television and the most expensive one in the fantasy genre. It is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels titled “A Song of Ice and Fire”. The audience could already see six seasons of the series. They also obtained recognition of Russian viewers.
