The International Seminar “Protection and Management of the Assumption Cathedral and the Trinity Church in Sviyazhsk, the Area of Sviyazhsk and the Buffer Zone” was held in the Republic of Tatarstan last week. Mikhail Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, participated in it.

This event took place in Kazan and in the island town of Sviyazhsk. Mintimer Shaimiev, State Counsellor of the Republic of Tatarstan, opened the seminar. During two days, its participants discussed Russian and foreign management experience of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, historical and cultural monuments of universal value.

The report of Mikhail Sharomazov about the ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery aroused much interest. The director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve told his colleagues about preparation of the Management Plan of the UNESCO Site. As an instance, he mentioned the situation concerning coordination of the procedure of services in the Church of St. Martinian in summer with the parish of the Church of Epiphany.

It is worth reminding that the ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery was the only Russian site about which the UNESCO World Heritage Committee made no remarks at the 37th UNESCO Session that was held in Cambodia in 2013. They noted the positive dynamics of the work done and fulfillment of all conditions. As a result, the next report on the Ferapontov Monastery will be presented to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee not earlier than in 2018.
