History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The scientific conference “Fifth Kirillo-Novoezersky Readings” was held in Belozersk on February 18. Four employees of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve took part in it. This event was organized within the framework of the Year of Literature in Russia and under the aegis of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Teachers of universities and comprehensive schools, employees of museums, archives, libraries, institutions of preschool and additional education, representatives of the clergy and pupils of secondary schools of the Vologda region gathered in the exhibition hall of the Museum “Historical Belozersk”.

The participants of the readings presented reports in several sections. The one about local history included the reports of two employees of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve. E.S. Petrushova told about I.G. Chuchin, native of the Kirillov district, veteran of three wars and one of the first pilots in our country. A.V. Tsvetkov reported about Kirillov’s inventor A.P. Trubnikov.

Two other reports of the museum employees were also connected with the residents of the Kirillov district. A.N. Kalikina told about I.M. Uverov, participant of the Great Patriotic War. One of the streets in Kirillov is named after him. The participants of the conference learnt about Kirillov’s roots of T.E. Bunova, native of Belozersk, thanks to L.I. Glysina. In all, about 50 reports on various subjects were presented during the readings.
