History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Delegations of the Republic of Belarus and the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic - participants of the International Exhibition-Fair “Russian Wood” taking place in Vologda from December 3 to 5 – visited the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve on December 4.

According to the reports of the local mass media, over 200 people from all over Russia, including the Crimea, and foreign countries took part in the event. Specialists of Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Belarus presented their achievements in the sphere of timber cutting and woodworking. They placed their stands in the pavilions of the exhibition centre “Russky Dom” and about 50 units of equipment – on the adjacent area. The total exhibition space was more than 3000 square metres.

The goals of the exhibition-fair “Russian Wood” are to approach scientific researches to the state forest management, to manage forestry, wood exploitation and timber industry. Its program included about 20 events: seminars, off-site meetings, round table discussions and interactive master-classes. The following issues were discussed there: investment development of the branch, legal fundamentals, improvement of the forest management system, implementation of the law “On Turnover of Timber and Deals with it”, and forest protection.

First the guests visited the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes and then went to see the architectural monuments of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. They also admired the masterpieces of icon-painting art in the House of the Father Superior. The delegations were delighted with the monastery ensemble and wished the museum further success.
