History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Family Day was held in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve yesterday, on November 30. A tour of the Assumption Cathedral was conducted for visitors. They were told about the history of the church starting from its construction till the latest events.

It is worth reminding that the Family Day takes place in the museum last Sunday of every month. It is the day when children (under 18), students of higher education institutions and large families can visit expositions and exhibitions free of charge. Master-classes in different subjects, lectures and tours become a special bonus for museum guests.

Besides, the 17th-century walls were opened for visitors on Saturday and Sunday. Traditionally, it is impossible for tourists to ascend the walls in late autumn, winter and early spring because the walls are closed from the end of the summer season and till May. People can get there only during outdoor cultural events and in good weather conditions. But now it is real to ascend the walls in winter: they will be open for visitors at the weekend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We also remind you of the special action for pupils and students that will last till the end of the year. If they book a tour of the expositions “Antiquities of Belozersk District”, Folk Art of Belozersk District” and the Museum of Town and District History, they will pay only the guide service. They won’t have to buy entrance tickets that will be given free of charge.
