The Assumption Cathedral has been opened for visitors recently. It was restored during many years. One more important event in its history took place on the eve of the commemoration day of St. Kirill Belozersky. A service was performed in this church – the first one within the last 90 years. The service was also conducted there the next day, on the commemoration day of St. Kirill. Not only local parishioners, but also pilgrims from other cities attended it.
The commemoration day of St. Kirill Belozersky canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church is celebrated on June 22. The founder and the first Father Superior of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery was a significant figure in the spiritual and even political life of the country. We can read about the miracles that happened with him in his Life. Services to St. Kirill Belozersky are performed in the functional church every week. Besides, a religious procession was held on the commemoration day of the Russian saint.
The Assumption Cathedral (1497) is the central church in the architectural ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. The first draft of its restoration was made before the revolution of 1917. In 1919, the All-Russian commission revealed and conserved 75 most precious icons. Restoration of the church was continued after the foundation of the museum in the closed monastery. Specialists worked during several decades to restore its appearance.
