History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Outdoor festivities took place in Ferapontovo on a hot summer day – on June 14. The festival “Illusions of Old Village” organized by the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes has been held for the third time. Such events always arouse interest of both local residents and tourists. Special atmosphere reigning in the outskirts of Ferapontovo probably favours it.

The festival started with a wonderful illusion: spectators could see young boys and girls from the past century – the early 20th century. The cheerful village youth was going to the outdoor festivities – to the same holiday that modern guests attended. The event was held on the large area from the monastery walls till Borodaevskoye Lake. Local craftsmen - lace-maker Nina Kuznetsova, potter Sergey Fenveshi and smith Nikolay Mitin – presented their works and were glad to tell people about secrets of their crafts.

A concert took place on the improvised stage: students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture headed by V.L. Nuzhina, the folklore ensemble “Sudarushka” (the Kaduy district), singers of Russian romances performed for the guests. They could also have delicious tea with pies in the cool shade of trees where the table was set. But children were especially fortunate to come to this festival: they could take part in various mobile games, get counters for it and receive sweet prizes. However, adults also played gorodki, jumped over the rope, and flew the kite. Somebody attended a master-class and created a folk doll, the others had their pictures taken in the photo studio. Besides, tours were conducted for the guests.

The photo display entitled “Faces of the Village (20th Century)” was presented in the open air in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. People could see pictures of Ferapontovo, its residents and the ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery.

Tatiana Lyushina from Kirillov took part in the village fashion show and demonstrated a wonderful festive dress of a Russian woman. She was awarded a special prize from the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. Many guests could get prizes on that day. For example, participants of the lottery who bought special tickets that also gave them a right to visit all museum exhibitions free of charge. In all, over 20 prizes were given.

An award ceremony of the participants and the winners of the contest “Your Family Tree” was held during the festival. The Lyivovs and the Lobanovs (Kirillov) claimed a win in the project.
