The festival of historical reenactment “Kirillo-Belozersky Siege” that was held over the last weekend could be called the most successful during its history. Over 6000 people visited the museum to see the reenactment of the 17th-century battle. Most of them came from other Russian cities in spite of the distance.
Spectators could watch everything standing near the monastery fortifications or ascending them. The audience packed both tiers of the walls from the Kazan Tower till the Vologda Tower. Even more visitors were standing around the ground where the reenactment was held.
The festival consisted of several parts. It was opened with a parade and introduction of the clubs participating in the event. And then a field battle in which infantry, artillery and cavalry took part started. They reenacted the events when the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery had been attacked by the Polish-Lithuanian invaders.
Besides, people were told in details about clothing and arms of the warriors and could watch equestrian tournaments at the festival. They are always spectacular. But “Kirillo-Belozersky Siege 2014” proved it once again. People had their favourites whom they admired and supported.
The festival of historical reenactment has also shown that the whole families attend such events. Both children and adults participated in various games, flung spears, shot arrows, and so on. Numerous guests could also go to a small café and buy different goods - from children’s toys to delicious honey – at the medieval fair.
