The Festival of Traditional American Music will be held in the Vologda region from August 1 to 3. Vologda’s audience gets acquainted with musical culture of the USA during five years. This year’s event will be about on of the most famous music genres - American blues.
It is known that blues originated in the African-American communities in the “Deep-South” of the United States among the people from the “Cotton Belt” plantations in the late 19th century. Its native land is the delta of the Mississippi River. The blues formed from work songs, field hollers, shouts, spirituals, chants and rhymed simple narrative ballads. This genre is considered to be one of the most influential contributions of the Afro-Americans to the music culture.
“Willie J. Laws Band” (USA) will present this music genre in the Vologda region. Willie J. Laws, leader of this music group, is called “the prophet of Texas funky-blues. The American press points out depth and dynamism of his songs and an ability to charm any audience.
The Fifth Festival of Traditional American Music will start in Vologda. The museum complex “Tsypino” (in the outskirts of Ferapontovo) will first become one of its grounds. The concert of Willie J. Laws Band will begin there on August 2 at 14:00. It will take place within the framework of the “Ilyinsky Festival”. Admission is free.
