It is very quiet in the museum on weekdays in late autumn. Warm summertime when groups of tourists have gone along the alley one by one is over and there is one month left till the New Year’s Day and long holidays. But this momentary lull makes a deceptive impression about the museum activity in the off-season. Active work is being actually carried out there.
The architectural monuments that are in scaffolding demonstrate it in the best possible way. Really impressive restoration is being carried out in the museum now. The Kazan Tower, the Dwelling Cells with closets (prison), the Trinity Gate, the Church of Transfiguration and the rooms in the walls of the New Town fortifications between the Kazan and the Vologda Towers – this is the list of the monuments that have been restored since 2014.
When autumn set in and the new school year started, museum employees resumed to hold various lessons, to read lectures and to deliver master-classes for pupils and children of kindergartens. Residents of Kirillov and Ferapontovo begin to learn the history of the region and to get acquainted with unique museum collections at an early age. Events take place in the exposition halls, at schools and kindergartens. Different lessons are conducted for each age group.
For example, today, on November 13, boys and girls attending the kindergarten ¹ 6 in Kirillov have gone to the Cooking or Vinegar cells . Elena Ikvils, research officer of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, told them about clay toys. Interesting examples of the toys made in Kargopol, Filimonovo and Dymkovo are kept in the Open Storage of Ceramics in the museum. The children listened to the story very carefully and examined the bright clay figures with interest.
Besides, new exhibitions have been opened and will be soon opened in the museum. The employees conduct tours for guests, prepare for various events, and participate in scientific conferences held in different regions of Russia.
