It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Employees of the scientific department of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve got a parcel from Khabarovsk. It was sent by our famous fellow-townsman - General Leonid Alexeevich Shivdyakov. He celebrated his 70th birthday in May 2014. The exhibition on the occasion of this event was opened in the Museum of Town and District History. It presented various materials that were handed over by Leonid Shivdyakov to the museum within the previous years: a uniform coat, a compass, a table clock, diplomas, books, documents and photographs. The museum prepared a congratulatory address to him and sent it together with its latest editions, including the catalogue of the museum exhibition, to the general.

In June, the museum got one more parcel from the Far East. Leonid Shivdyakov thanked the administration and employees of the museum and sent new materials that told about his life journey: from the pupil of the seven-year school in Kuznetsovo of the Kirillov district to the outstanding commander. He has a lot behind himself: the study at the river vocational school in Veliky Ustiug, the Leningrad Artillery Command School, the Military Artillery Academy, the General Staff Academy of the Armed Forces, the service in the Far Eastern Military District where he was a commander of rocket forces and artillery during ten years. From 2001 to 2009, he headed the State Technical Commission attached to the President of the Russian Federation, then – the Administrative board of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control in the Far Eastern Military District. The Candidate of Military Science is a recognized expert in the sphere of information security of Russia. Leonid Shivdyakov was awarded the Order of the Red Star (1991), the Order of Military Merits (1998), the Decoration “For Impeccable Service” (2004), the Order of the Badge of Honour (2008) and many medals for his merits in strengthening the defence capability of the country.

The list of the new materials includes the colourful anniversary edition “On the Occasion of the 70th Birthday of Lieutenant General Leonid Alexeevich Shivdyakov” prepared by the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy in St. Petersburg. It contains numerous photos of our fellow-townsman and his colleagues. Along with books and postcards about cities and nature of the Far East, there are editions reflecting the history of the Russian artillery and the Far Eastern Military District. We can see various events of the military career and state service of Leonid Shivdyakov in the photos and newspaper articles. The materials sent by the general will replenish his personal holding in our museum. They will be used in scientific and exhibition work. Residents of the Kirillov district can be proud of their outstanding fellow-townsman who spent his childhood in the village of Opryatkovo of the Charozero rural council.
