The past evening in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve was marked by dramatic (in every sense of the word) events. One more play was presented there within the framework of the International Theatrical Festival “Voices of History”.
Guests from the Perm Territory visited Kirillov. The Berezniki Drama Theatre staged the play “My Distance Carriage” based on the novel of Anatoly Pristavkin. It was about the inmates of the children’s home that were exiled to Siberia because of their bad behavior.
The evening promised to be warm and spectators came to the museum even an hour prior to the event. But the weather changed sharply. As soon as the actors entered on the scene, it thundered and then started to rain. First it seemed that the summer heavy shower would stop. Then the people who sat under roof gave their umbrellas to the artists, including those who were on the stage at that time. However, the leading man refused to use it almost immediately. All actors performed in the rain that didn’t stop for a minute till the final scene of the play.
The historical drama intertwined with the natural one. The most amazing thing was that the natural settings exactly reflected the event taking place on the stage. Spectators could get to the atmosphere of the 1940s, a very difficult period in the history of our country.
The inmates of the children’s homes are exiled to Siberia because of their bad behaviour where they are landed at one of the stations. People consider them to be juvenile offenders. This is how they are marked in the documents. Wandering of children who become adults early, their escapes and the first love of two teenagers Anton and Zoya – everything was brilliantly presented on the stage.
Professionalism of the actors of the Berezniki Drama Theatre and the tragic final of the story that they told aroused mixed emotions of the spectators: delight, sadness and certainly tears. They stood to clap the talented artists. The performers of the parts of Anton and Zoya were given a recall without paying any attention to heavy rain.
The Festival “Voices of History” is going on. The museum invites everybody to see the performance “Money. Craftiness. Love” based on the works of Mikhail Zoshchenko on Sunday, July 6. It was staged by the Vologda Drama Theatre.
