History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The round table discussion about establishment of the Public Council of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve was held on September 5. A.P. Badanina, chairperson of the Committee on Education, Culture and Public Health in the Vologda Oblast Legislative Assembly; V.A. Osipovsky, head of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Cultural Heritage Preservation in the Vologda Oblast; E.V. Shershen, member of the board of the Regional Public Organization “Vologda Community” in Moscow; S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov district; N.I. Mishusta, chairman of the Vologda Regional Branch of the Union of Russian Artists; A.Y. Kotov, Mayor of Kirillov; A.L. Myalkin, member of the Commission on State and Legal Activity and Issues of Citizens’ Safety in the Public Chamber of the Vologda region; Father Superior of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery Ignaty; A.N. Tyulyandin, head of the Ferapontovo rural settlement; Mikhail Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve; O.P. Kuchko, chairperson of the Regional Public Organization of the Russian Trade Union of Cultural Workers; V.V. Ratsko, representative of the public, took part in the meeting.

They discussed the position of the museum in modern society. Mikhail Sharomazov told about its role in preservation, restoration and popularization of historical and cultural heritage, confirming everything with facts and figures.

They paid special attention to the collaboration of the museum with the regional authorities and cooperation prospects. Speaking about the established relations of the museum and the Department of Culture, V.A. Osipovsky underlined that they would be developed in the positive direction in future. A.P. Badanina declared about her decision to become a member of the Public Council. She suggested elaborating a plan and priority directions of its work. S.V. Usov reported about close business relationship between the museum and the local authorities at this stage.

At present the final list of members of the Public Council hasn’t been formed yet, but work in this direction is being already carried out. Vyacheslav Pozgalev, deputy of the State Duma; Oleg Vasiliev, Deputy Governor of the Vologda Oblast; V.A. Kuptsov, chairman of the Regional Public Organization “Vologda Community” in Moscow; N.A. Makarov, director of the Institute of Archeology of the RAS; A.L. Kuznetsov, director of the National Park “Russian North” and several representatives of the authorities and the organizations of the Vologda region – in all, 16 persons – have already told about their willingness to join the council.
