History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The action “Night of Arts” will be held all over the country for the second year running. It is scheduled for November 3 this year. Museums, theatres, cultural centres and philharmonic societies – all institutions that are directly connected with art - prepare various events for visitors according to a new tradition.

The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes are also arranging interesting programs. Residents and guests of Kirillov will see a film and a performance. Besides, several events will be held in Ferapontovo.

Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve

The exhibition “History of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery” in the Refectory will be open till 22:00 (discount tickets are valid).

at 21:00 – screening of the film “Preserving the Past” marking the 90th anniversary of the museum foundation for visitors of the exhibition in the Refectory.

at 22:00 – performance “Soldiers of Love” of the Vologda Chamber Drama Theatre in the conference hall. Admission is free.

The play “Soldiers of Love” is based on the novel of the Soviet writer Viktor Astafiev “Shepherd and Shepherdess”. It is about the period of the Great Patriotic War. The main characters are a young lieutenant and a girl. Spectators will see a story about love, the most important meeting of two persons and their separation. Viktor Astafiev admitted once that this novel was his most favourite work.

Come and spend a weekend evening in the museum! The performance will be staged in the conference hall on October 3 at 22:00. Admission is free. This play will become a part of the cycle of museum events marking the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes

at 18:00 – opening of the display “History of One Exhibit” in the parvis of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral. Admission is free.

at 19:00 – interactive lesson “A Letter in Russian Ligature Script” in the administrative building of the museum. A ticket costs 50 rubles.

at 20:00 – master-class of the artist Alexander Pesterev working in the aesthetics of modern art with classical materials. A ticket costs 130 rubles. The event will be held in the administrative building of the museum.

Non-standard compositional solutions, complicated colours, choice of subjects make the creative activity of Alexander Pesterev remarkable and recognizable both on the Russian and international exhibitions grounds.

At the end of the master-class, the picture painted by him will be drawn according to the numbers of the purchased tickets. Hurry up to join in the event and you will be able to get one of the works of Alexander Pesterev.

The Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral, the Refectory, and the Church of St. Martinian will be open for visitors till 22:00 during the action “Night of Arts”. Admission by ticket.
