History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve got caught in the lens of local residents: the action “It is My Town” started on October 1. It is also mentioned as “My Favourite Town” in the social networking site. This event was initiated by activists of the Youth Centre “Alfa”.

This action is held in the social networking site “Vkontakte” and “Instagram” where Kirillov’s residents can post their selfies against a background of the monument they like. They are also to describe the chosen historical place briefly and to hand the “baton” to their friends calling upon them to take a similar picture. The action has a special hashtag #Êèðèëëîâñïàìÿòíèêîì that the participants mention in their posts.

Photos with the towers of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, the former merchants’ houses, the buildings of the Ecclesiastical School, the People’s House, the monument of Lenin and the memorial plate dedicated to mathematician D.A. Grave were placed on the personal web pages of town dwellers.

S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov district, and A.Y. Kotov, Mayor of Kirillov, took part in the action. The official account of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve also received an invitation to join in it. We coped with the task within the stated time – 24 hours. The picture was taken against the background of the 19th-century house that belonged to local merchant Sizmin.

Now the action continues gathering pace. A whole photo album of the favourite historical places of local residents has already been made.
