History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and its branch - the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes – have been taking an active part in the famous international action “Night at the Museum” for several years. It will be held on May 17 in 2014.

The Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes has already prepared a new program of events within the framework of the action and offers visitors to spend their spare time in an interesting and unusual way. “Night at the Museum” in Ferapontovo will begin at 18:00 and will last till 22:00.

18:00 Quest-tour “In search of a secret room”

Its participants will get to mysterious atmosphere, going along dark narrow stairs and looking for a real secret room in the Church of Annunciation. On finding it, they will discover the treasure!

18:00 Museum lesson “Apprentices of Dionisy” (novelty of 2014)

You will learn about the outstanding icon-painter of the 15th – early 16th century Dionisy, fresco painting, the Dionisy’s frescoes in the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral created in 1502, and will try to make a fresco according to the ancient technique.

20:00 Museum lesson “Psalter – main teaching book in Ancient Russia”

It continues the cycle of lessons marking the 1150th anniversary of the Slavic writing. You will be able to familiarize yourself with the “higher” book used to teach reading and writing in Ancient Russia, will write the first psalm in Church Slavonic with dip pen and ink and will learn its significance.

Tours will be conducted every hour from 18:00 to 22:00.
