History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

One of the most important events of the year - the scientific conference “12th Kirillov’s Readings” marking the 90th anniversary of the museum foundation – took place last Friday. Employees of museums, cultural institutions, students of the regional universities and pupils participated in it.

Some changes were made in this year’s conference in comparison with the program of the previous years because of a great deal of applications and a variety of subjects. By tradition, Mikhail Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve, opened the conference and greeted all participants. He underlined the importance of the 12th Kirillov’s Readings in the jubilee year for the museum and noted that colleagues from different districts of the Vologda region joined in them.

“We can’t help being pleased at the geography of specialists who have come to the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve from different parts of the Vologda region. Today we can see people who work on similar subjects in this hall, that’s why it is very significant to listen to their reports. And the main thing is that specialists meet and communicate with each other at such conferences. I welcome you on the Kirllov land and wish you successful work”, said Mikhail Sharomazov.

The work of the conference was organized in the following way: several reports were included into the plenary meeting that all participants attended. Three reports were about the frescoes in the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral in the Ferapontov Monastery – they were presented by employees of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes: E.N. Shelkova, O.V. Silina and Y.V. Shemyakova. The next speakers were the colleagues of Vologda who constantly participated in the Kirillov’s Readings - O.A. Sokolova (the Autonomous Institution of Culture of the Vologda region “Vologdarestavratsiya”) and E.A. Vinogradova (the Vologda State Museum-Preserve).

The other reports were made in two sections: “Architecture, history, archeology, folklore, museology” and “History, local studies”. Some of their authors are also constant participants of the conference: Alexey Mokievsky (confessor of the Goritsy Convent of the Resurrection), Viktor Kalachyov (student of Vologda State University), Mikhail Ozhogin, Kirill Gusarin and Arina Sazhina (pupils of the Kirllov secondary school), and certainly research officers of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.

It is also important that new participants prepared reports for this year’s conference: I.E. Kaparulina and I.V. Sokolova representing the Vashki District Local History Museum, V.A. Pritchina from the Totma Museum Association, and the whole delegation of the Museum of Architecture and Ethnography “Semenkovo” (O.K. Gladysheva, D.A. Mukhin, T.A. Panteleeva). Their reports considerably varied and enriched the program. Angelina Zhitnukhina (student of Cherepovets State University), Dmitry Sokolov, Sofia Zaitseva, Arina Cherepanova and Sergey Shestopalov (pupils of town and district schools) first joined in the Kirilov’s Readings.

Presentations of the participants aroused much interest among not only those who attended the event, but also Internet users. Photos of the conference were placed in online mode thanks to the «Instagram» service where the museum had been registered not long ago. Besides, they could be also seen in other social networking sites where the museum had its official pages.

It is planned to publish a scientific collected book containing all reports of the conference. Probably, the materials will be released to the public on the museum website.
