History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Employees of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve conduct lessons for children of local kindergartens within the framework of the program “See the Museum!” Preschool children went to the museum in January to visit the new exhibition “Horse. Hobbyhorse. Pony”. They saw wooden and clay toys – souvenir horses made in the most ancient folk artistic crafts centres of Russia (Kargopol, Gzhel, Filimonovo) and author’s works of craftsmen M. Vasilieva, T. Zavarin, Z. Zirin, S. Fenveshi. Besides, they were interested in lace table-clothes, napkins, panels and pieces of clothing displayed at the exhibition “Magic of Bobbins”.

In February, the children of senior groups went to the Open Storage of Ceramics where Elena Ikvils told them about a potter, the process of clay preparation and painting of earthenware. The kids familiarized themselves with several kinds of clay toys made in Kargopol, Filimonovo and Dymkovo. Natalya Baklanova conducted the lesson titled “Ancient Things” for boys and girls of the preschool groups. They saw the articles of the 19th-20th centuries: boxes, ink pots, pilot’s glasses, plates, medallions, fragments of the mica window, and tiny plates and dishes created by People’s Artist of Russia Marina Vasilieva.

During the Pancake Week, Natalya Nevzorova held a playing program for preschool children and told them about traditions of Maslenitsa celebrations in Russia. The kids participated in a tug-of-war contest, played with a special doll made on the fourth day of the Butter Week called Show Time. They also learnt the secrets of pancake cooking.

The museum employees plan to conduct a lot of interesting lessons for preschool children within the framework of the program “See the Museum!”
