The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve has applied for participation in the First Internet Festival of Museum Multimedia “Museum Geek” organized by the State Museum of History of Religion (St. Petersburg). Its main aim is to support innovative computer and multimedia programs of museums.
Computer programs developed for virtual, exposition and exhibition, cultural and educational or socially oriented museum projects are accepted for the contest. It includes several nominations: digital collections, programs for people with special needs, multimedia for permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, educational programs, museum advertising and PR.
The contestants’ works will be placed on a special page of the website of the State Museum of History of Religion http://gmir.ru/special/gik/gik5. Everybody who wants will be able to see the projects and even to take part in the voting that is due to begin on April 18 to determine the winner. The participant who gains the largest number of votes will receive the Grand Prix of the Festival. The jury headed by Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum, President of the Union of Museums of Russia, will name winners in every nomination. All contestants will be awarded diplomas and certificates. Laureates in every nomination will get valuable prizes.
Several works have already been placed on the website. The Vologda region is represented with two projects: the improved version of the virtual tour of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and the virtual tour “Vologda’s Residents in the History of Russian America” of the Vologda State Museum-Preserve.
