The Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes presents an exhibition of graphic works from its holdings numbering over one thousand drawings and printed works. The display united the works connected with the areas of the Russian North, the village of Ferapontovo and its outskirts. Its goal is to show the variety of graphic techniques and methods: from etching and lithography to pen and pencil drawing. The postcards of the early 20th century with the water-colours of I. Bilibin and I. Grabar are of special interest. They were made in the modern style in accordance with impressions of the summer tours of the Russian North. Small hand-painted lithographs of I. Prilutsky are variants of the coloristic solutions of nature depending on its state and the artist’s spirits.
If an artist gets more or less predictable results in prints, live painting is connected with laws of chance, luck and hit. We can say it about the water-colours of N. Andronov, N. Yegorshin, R. Survillo, B. Messerer and others. In spite of the variety of creative manners and techniques of execution, love for the severe region and delight of its grandeur unite all artists. They certainly convey these feelings in their works. Muted colours of the northern summer betoken forthcoming farewell to winter and beginning of warm happy days.
The exhibition “Northern Summer” will be open till March 15.
