At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

A wonderful winter day, sunny weather and fairy snowy nature - the holiday of winter, health and good spirits “Winter Amusements” was held in Ferapontovo on January 25, 2014. The employees of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes organized the event in which both children and grown-ups, both local residents and guests from different cities (Kirillov, Vologda, Cherepovets, Moscow) took part.

Students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture opened the holiday very brightly and emotionally with songs and dances and rode on a snow tube with the flag of “Winter Amusements”. They quickly created festive spirits and cheered everybody up. All guests were pleased to participate in the events prepared by the museum: games, contests, a relay, a winter prizes-for-all lottery, a quest-tour “In search of a secret room” and so on. Both kids and adults enjoyed sliding and snow-tubing and could have their pictures taken with the fairy characters – the Bear, the Fox and the Snow Man. Soulful songs of Elena Vyazigina and lively melodies of accordionist Gennady Golubev touched peoples’ feelings and old and young alike broke into a dance. Children took a ride on a dogsled and ate cotton candy with delight. The guests could have tea with pies and eat kebabs there.

Craftsmen of Sheksna, Cherepovets and Kirillov presented their articles at the holiday. Buying a lottery ticket, visitors could go to see expositions and exhibitions of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes and get useful winter prizes. Gifts were also given to all ladies named Tatiana who came to “Winter Amusements” as the Tatiana’s Day was celebrated on January 25.

The holiday culminated in the storming of a snow mountain. Boys and girls as well as parents and youth assaulted the mountain with enthusiasm. Everybody was elated. The guests gave numerous reviews in which they thanked the organizers and asked them to hold such events in future:

“We liked “Winter Amusements”! The program was interesting and lively! Thank you very much for the holiday! Sidorenko M.Y.”

“Thanks a lot for SUCH a holiday! It was great and such fun! So much health, excitement and adrenaline! Children were happy! It would be great if such events were held more often. Thank you very much! 25.01 2014”

The employees of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes express gratitude to the teachers of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture and the students headed by V.L. Nuzhina for their help in the organization and holding of the holiday and invite everybody to take an active part in the museum tours and events.
