The album-guidebook contains bright photographs with general views of the architectural ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and the Assumption (or Dormition) Cathedral with side-churches, drawings of the middle of the 19th century, and the reconstruction of the church made by S.S. Podyapolsky. Besides, there are illustrations of the church interior. Readers can see the reconstruction of the iconostasis of the mid-18th century, the interior of the late 19th century and of the 1950s, its modern state with colourful wall paintings that have been restored recently. Photos of the icons of the famous Assumption Cathedral in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery certainly take a rightful place among other pictures in the book.
The text was written by museum research officer Elena Shchurina. Telling about the Assumption Cathedral, she touches upon such subjects as history of the monastery, construction of the church, its initial appearance and further reconstructions, history and structure of the iconostasis, donations of famous and noble persons, archeological studies, and restoration work in the cathedral.
You can buy the album-guidebook in the souvenir kiosks of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve and its branch - the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.
