A solemn regional event timed to the National Unity Day was held in Vologda at the beginning of November. The commemorative medal “Patriot of Russia” and the badge of honour “For Active Work on Patriotic Education of RF Citizens” were presented during this event. Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov participated in this ceremony. Ilya Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve, was among those who were given the medal “Patriot of Russia”.
He noted commenting upon this important event: “I think that this award is the merit of all employees of the museum working in the sphere of patriotic education and local history”.
The commemorative medal “Patriot of Russia” instituted in 2006 is given to citizens of our country for an important contribution to patriotic education and display of patriotism in public, official, military and labour activity.
Ilya Alexeevich Smirnov has been working in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve for 30 years. He is a deputy director during more than 20 years supervising various issues in all spheres of the museum activity. Ilya Smirnov takes an active part in the public life of Kirillov and the Kirillov district, he is a member of the Urban Council and a deputy of the Town Council. A number of projects aimed at the memorialization of our fellow-townsmen – famous figures, participants of the Great Patriotic War, homefront workers – are implemented with his direct participation. Ilya Alexeevich was repeatedly awarded honorary certificates and letters of gratitude, the decoration of the Ministry of Culture of the RF for his long fruitful work.
