The action “Night of Arts” was held in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve on November 3 from 18:00 till midnight. But one more event took place in the conference hall that morning – the First Regional Conference of Interethnic Relations of Peoples in the Vologda Region. It was organized by our museum, the Department of Federal Migration Service in the Vologda region, the youth public organization “Club of Peoples’ Friendship “STEP”, and the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery.
Representatives of over ten nations living in our region gathered in the conference hall: Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Armenians, Ossetians, Azerbaijanis, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Gypsies, and even Vietnamese. Among them there were heads of the diasporas from Kirillov, Vologda, Cherepovets and heads of youth organizations – activists popularizing the idea of interethnic dialogue.
Alexei Makarovsky, Deputy Governor of the Vologda Oblast, who attended the event, greeted all participants of the conference: “I wish you good luck in your job. Showcase you skills, because we understand that social and cultural adaptation is the best way toward interethnic peace. I hope that today you will elaborate new additional directions that will help you to work more efficiently”. Participants of the event shared their life experience as a result of which their firm attitude in the issue of peoples’ friendship was formed. They told about public activity, made suggestions concerning cooperation and further participation in joint projects. Any conference includes a coffee-break. In this case, it was a real tea party where the guests were pleased to taste dishes of national cuisines. As is well known, common meal always brings people together.
A creative part of the event took place after the tea party. Like a year ago, during the district festival of national cultures, representatives of the nations appeared on the scene, sang songs in Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Ukrainian, Uzbek and even Hebrew, recited poems, danced and presented gymnastic numbers.
This conference was held within the framework of the Regional Festival of International Cultures timed to the National Unity Day. As a result, they made a document and specified all further steps that the enterprising multinational society of the Vologda region would have to take to support peaceful dialogue between peoples.
