A new exhibition about butterflies was opened in the Refectory of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. People were delighted with their beauty, lightness and finesse from time immemorial. They wrote poems and composed songs about butterflies. They were mentioned in the myths and legends of many people of the world and even religious teachings. Butterflies often personified the man’s soul.
The display opened in the museum was organized as a result of collaboration with the National Park “Russian North”. There are a lot of animals, birds and insects in this protected area. Many of them are included into the Red Data Book of the Vologda region and Russia. Employees of the national park presented over 50 photos of butterflies that could be found in the Kirillov district. Visitors can see these amazing insects. Some of them are quite familiar, the others can be seldom seen. But all of them are beautiful in their own way. When people look at them, they have feelings of weightlessness, joy and carelessness like in ancient times.
