A solemn unveiling ceremony of the memorial plate in honour of Russian mathematician Dmitry Alexandrovich Grave has taken place today. The plate is located on the wall of the house where the future famous scientist was born. The building itself has come down to us, though it was reconstructed. Now the infectious disease ward of the district hospital is situated there.

Representatives of the local authorities, the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve and town dwellers attended the ceremony. Besides, a lot of mathematicians – participants of the International Scientific Conference that was held in Vologda and marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of D.A. Grave - came to Kirillov to join in the event.

V.S. Kulikov reminded of the important contribution that the famous mathematician made to the Russian science: “Dmitry Alexandrovich Grave made an invaluable contribution to the Russian mathematics: he established the algebraic school. A genealogy table of mathematics was placed in the Internet several years ago. I dare assert that the great majority of Russian and Soviet algebraists were pupils of Grave or pupils of his pupils. As for me, I am a scientific great-grandson of Dmitry Grave. He has laid the basis thanks to which the Russian algebraic school plays one of the leading roles in the world”.

Teachers-veterans of the Kirillov secondary school unveiled the memorial plate. Then people laid flowers at it. At the end of the event, the guests visited the garden named after D.A. Grave (the street also bears his name) and went to see the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve and the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.
