The interior of the Church of St. Martinian in the Ferapontov Monastery is being renovated. The museum began this work in July 2013 after some necessary preparation: all exhibits were removed from the monument; the iconostasis and the chandelier, the painting on the walls of the church and the vault of the sanctuary were covered with special material.
The first stage of work included cleaning and polishing of the wooden floor that was partially damaged. It was necessary to fasten the boards, to fill in the gaps and sags, to paint and to varnish the floor. They whitewashed the walls and the vaults of the tent-shaped roof, cleaned and painted the metallic forged ties and rods, windows of the roof, puttied the joints of the window-sills and window frames with stone reveals, whitewashed the church porch.
At present the restorers have started the final stage of the repair. It is due to be completed in the first half of October.
