History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Museum of town and district history was opened three years ago. Over 5000 people have visited it within this time. Tours, master-classes, lectures and various events were offered for them.

Foreigners have come to the museum this year. An interactive program titled “History of One House” has been organized for tourists travelling on the motor boats “Rublev” and “Victoria”. The guests got to the atmosphere of the late 19th century - the period when Joachim Nodelman, doctor of the town hospital, had lived in this house together with his family. One of the daughters of the doctor met the visitors, showed them their house and told about their life. In the drawing-room, the guests were especially interested in the gramophone of the late 19th century (from the house of local priest K.N. Vinogradov) and a cupboard of the early 20th century (from the house of merchant Z.I. Markelov). They learnt about the life of women and needlework in the bedroom. Lace and knitted articles were presented there. The Singer sewing-machine was exhibited at the window. It was very expensive at that time, cost about 100 roubles. Many people bought it by instalment. Visitors often asked questions about a samovar in the kitchen. At the end of the visit, the guests had tea with local pastry. They were glad and impressed with what they had seen and wished the museum employees all the best. In general, over 2000 foreigners have visited the former house of the district doctor this year.
