The Alexey Nitetsky’s exhibition titled “Captured Eternity. Architectural Images of the Vologda Land” is open in the Museum of Russian Icon (Moscow). According to the information given on the official website of the museum, this project is the result of the twenty-year work of the outstanding photographer and the fine judge of architectural beauties and landscapes of the Russian North. Among 80 displayed works, you can see views of the most famous monasteries and cities of the Vologda region. These pictures were taken in different time.
Alexey Nitetsky’s opinion about this event is the following: “Monumentality of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, lightness and refinement of the Ferapontov Monastery, Belozersk with its huge lake, high ramparts from where you can see charming views, Veliky Ustiug – the native land of Russian explorers, courageous seamen who built magnificent churches and houses thanks to their warm-heartedness and generosity – these are main subjects of my display. Kirillov and Ferapontovo hold a special place in the architectural necklace of the Vologda land – they are a key to the understanding of the soul of the Russian North. I admire the charming beauty of the landscape, coming to this region for many years, like for the first time”.
Alexey Nitetsky often takes pictures on request of various periodicals, museums and scientific and research institutions. He first came to Kirillov in 1986 as a tourist. In the early 1990s, his professional activity made him come to Vologda (following the directive of academician of the RAS D.I. Likhachyov), then to Kirillov where he often worked for a long time. The photo artist has been cooperating with the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve for twenty years. Photos of Alexey Nitetsky can be seen in many editions about Kirillov and Ferapontovo, including “The Iconostasis of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery”.
