History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The exhibition “Children of the Village in the 20th-century Photos” continues the large photo project “Faces of the Village” organized by the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. Several other thematic exhibitions about work, festivals and traditions of the village portrait will be held within the framework of this project in the next few years. Local residents and people living in the outskirts of Ferapontovo who have handed over their pictures to the museum participate in the exhibition. The secondary school and the kindergarten of Ferapontovo gave a lot of materials. All photos were scanned and most of them were displayed. People can see dozens of children’s pictures from the family archives on the stands. There are a lot of portraits - beautiful and honest faces, shy and ingenious, evidencing about their time. These black-and-white, sometimes faded, photographs have special atmosphere of the irretrievably past times and cast a gloom and warmth. All pictures convey the mood of depicted people and help to see a personal look and emotional message of the photographer.

The exhibition of drawings of the children’s fine arts studio “Tchereda” was opened in the rural health post of Ferapontovo. The works reflect two thematic directions of the training process in the studio: drawings connected with general history of art and pictures about expositions and exhibitions of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. Pupils regularly go to see temporary displays and learn from the masters fulfilling practical tasks. Children paint monastery structures during the open air events and get acquainted with their inner decoration in the interiors. The exhibition in the lobby of the medical post will give a chance to adults and kids to see the creative works of young artists and hopefully will cheer up visitors and employees of the medical institution.

The exhibition of works of Kirillov’s master Nikolay Mitin, is still open in the Church of St. Prophet Elijah in the museum complex “Tsypino”. The famous smith has been plying his trade since 1989, having mastered this profession himself (his ancestors were not smiths). He began to make simple driver’s tools and then gradually became interested in artistic forging. His real talent was displayed in making of reconstructions. Nikolay Mitin creates wonderful articles the forms of which were perfected during centuries: armour – pole-axes, axes, spearheads, knives; traditional tools of peasants’ everyday life – oven forks, hooks, candlesticks, forged nails and locks. Restorers often ask the master for help, because numerous monuments of the Vologda region require necessary details of that time. And probably, there is nothing impossible in the smithcraft for him: “I can do everything that has been made in the smithy”, said N. Mitin.
