History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Museum will hold folk festival “Savior of the Honey Feast Day” and Fair of Honey

Trading rows with honey will be located near the main stage in the New Town of the museum on Saturday, August 17. Bears and cheerful button accordion players of the Song Theatre “Russian Button Accordion” under the direction of Pyotr and Irena Bartosh (Cherepovets) will amuse people.

People’s Artist of Russia Marina Vasilieva will teach children and adults to work with clay on a potter’s wheel and boatman Sergey Tokarev will arrange a hospitable meeting in the Boat Museum situated in the New Town. A lot of famous guests will perform on the stage. Soloists of the Governor Orchestra of Folk Instruments will present their program titled “Ah! Fair”. The folk ensembles will sing lyric and soulful songs. The highlight of the event will be a large concert of the Cossack Ensemble “Silver Horseshoe”. Its artistic director is Svetlana Zavarina, Honoured Worker of Culture of the RF.

We invite all residents and guests of Kirillov, children and grown-ups, to come to the museum-reserve and to attend the Fair of Honey. We especially ask beekeepers of our district to participate in the fair. This event will take place in the museum in all weather! In case of rain, people will be able to watch the performances from the galleries of the walls. Admission is free. The festival will begin at noon.
