History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Art Festival “The Property of Republic” will be held in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve from July 12 to 13, 2013. People will be able to see films shot in the Vologda region in different years and to meet with actors and directors. A lot of interesting events – performances, concerts, presentations and interactive programs – are scheduled within the framework of the festival.

A meeting with famous director Nikolay Dostal who shot the film “Schism” in Kirillov and its outskirts several years ago will open the festival. The cinema hall of the festival will begin to work in the walls of the monastery in the evening. Guests will be able to meet with actor, director and script writer Roman Artemiev.

A lot of events will take place on Saturday, July 13. An interactive program will start in the New Town of the museum in the morning. The military and historical club from Vologda will present re-enactment of the common camp situation on the occasion of the centenary of the First World War. Besides, children and adults will be able to ride a horse and to take part in different amusements during the whole day.

A presentation of the book “Cinema of the Vologda Region” written by Tatiana Kanunova, film expert and member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, will be held a little bit later. Besides, the icon “Novorusskaya Icon of the Virgin” will be presented on this day. It was painted by Sergey Kurakin, artist and actor starring in the film “Peasant Son”.

People will be able to see the puppet play “Thumbelina” presented by Russia’s Honoured Artist Elena Tadlova and the performance “Amore, Love, Lyubov” staged by the Chamber Drama Theatre (Vologda) under the direction of Jacob Rubin in the conference hall of the museum.

The cinema hall will continue its work during the day. The feature film “The Property of Republic” will be presented on a large screen. This movie was also shot in the Kirillov district and was released in 1971. Over 47 million people saw it in that year. Andrey Mironov, Oleg Tabakov, Spartak Mishulin starred in it. Music was composed by Yevgeny Krylatov to the verse of Bella Akhmadulina and Yuri Entin. Yuri Norstein was a studio animator of the film.

A gala concert of the festival will begin on the main stage in the New Town in the evening. The Governor Orchestra of Folk Instruments under the direction of Honoured Artist of Russia Galina Perevoznikova, the vocal ensemble “White Lake”, soloists Artyom Polkovnikov and Anastasia Orlova will perform in it. Distinguished guests of the event will appear on stage: Honoured Artist of Russia Valentina Berezutskaya; People’s Artist of Russia, director Nikolay Dostal; actors Sergey Makarov and Vyacheslav Glushkov, artist and actor Sergey Kurakin, actor and director Roman Artemiev.

Admission to all main events is free (expect the performances).
