The Art Festival “The Property of Republic” will take place in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve from July 12 to 13, 2013. This is a full program of the event.
July 12
The festival will be opened with the program “Evening with Cinema Maitre” on Friday, July 12, at 18:00 (conference hall). People will be able to meet director, People’s Artist of Russia Nikolay Dostal and to see his film “Pete on the Way to Heaven” (it won the Golden George at the 31st Moscow International Film Festival and awards of other international film festivals). The works of Nikolay Dostal were given prizes at prestigious professional contests. The director came to Kirillov several years ago to shoot the film “Schism” which was given the Nika Award in 2012.
The cinema hall of the festival will be opened in the walls of the monastery at 21:00. A creative meeting with actor, director and script writer Roman Artemiev will be held within the framework of the program “New Names”. He will present his short films “Tasya” and “Saviour”. “Tasya” has won awards and prizes at the “Kinoshock” and “St. Anna” film festivals and at the international festivals in the USA and Tunisia. “Saviour” is participating in the short film competition of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival on these days. Roman Artemiev acted in the following films: “Pete on the Way to Heaven” directed by N. Dostal, “Ivan the Terrible” and Children of the Arbat” directed by A. Eshpai, “Yar” directed by M. Razbezhkina, “Apostle” directed by G. Sidorov, and others.
July 13
This day will be rich in meetings, performances, concerts and other events which will begin at 11:00 and will last till late evening.
An interactive program will start in the New Town of the museum at 11:00. The military and historical club from Vologda will present re-enactment of the common camp situation on the occasion of the centenary of the First World War. Everybody will be able to have pictures taken with re-enactors. Besides, children and adults will be able to ride a horse and to take part in different amusements during the whole day.
A presentation of the book “Cinema of the Vologda Region” will be held in the cinema hall at 11:15. Tatiana Kanunova, author, film expert and member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, will tell about the book. Spectators will be also able to see fragments of the films shot in the Vologda region.
The film “Peasant Son” directed by Irina Tarkovskaya will be presented in the cinema hall at 12:00 within the framework of the program “Films Shot in the Kirillov District”. But first spectators will be able to meet with actor Vyacheslav Glushkov starring in the film and artist and icon-painter Sergey Kurakin.
The puppet play “Thumbelina” will be presented by Russia’s Honoured Artist Elena Tadlova on the second tier of the New Town walls at 12:00 and 14:00. This performance has participated in the National Festival of Puppet Theatres named after Mikhail Lakatnik in Yambol (Bulgaria) recently. Elena Tadlova has been awarded the diploma “For integration and international relations in the art”. People will see the puppet play “Thumbelina” in Kirillov within the framework of the program “Performances – Participants of International Festivals”. The ticket will cost 150 roubles.
A commemoration meeting of director Gennady Sidorov will take place in the conference hall of the museum at 15:00. Russian theatre and film actors Valentina Berezutskaya, Sergey Makarov, Roman Artemiev will participate in it. The event will be concluded with the screening of the film “Old Women” that won many awards at international festivals. Valentina Berezutskaya was given the Nika Award for Best Actress.
A presentation of the icon “Novorusskaya Icon of the Virgin” and a meeting with its creator Sergey Kurakin, artist and actor starring in the film “Peasant Son”, will begin at 15:00. This icon is the chronicle featuring the history of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. It was painted in Moscow from 1998 to 2008. According to the icon-painter, when he lived in the semi-basement of the workshop in 1998, he saw the appearance of the Virgin with Christ holding the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour that was woven of “ethereal threads”. The name of the icon is symbolic: it is connected with the entry of Russia into the new Russian 21st century. At the end of the work, the painter applied to the church for blessing. The Liturgical Commission of the Holy Synod noted “artistic value of the presented icon as a work of art”, but addressed the image for private veneration. During the meeting, Sergey Kurakin will present the icon and will tell about its history and idea.
The feature film “The Property of Republic (director Vladimir Bychkov) will be presented on a large screen in the New Town at 16:00 within the framework of the program “Films Shot in the Kirillov District”. Benches will be installed so that everybody could see the film from the walls of the monastery (admission to the walls by ticket only). This movie was released in 1971 and over 47 million people saw it in that year. Andrey Mironov, Oleg Tabakov, Spartak Mishulin starred in it. Music was composed by Yevgeny Krylatov to the verse of Bella Akhmadulina and Yuri Entin. Yuri Norstein was a studio animator of the film. People’s Artist of Russia Oleg Tabakov plans to come to Kirillov to meet with spectators in late 2013.
The first night of the performance “Amore, Love, Lyubov” based on the plays of Eduardo De Filippo, Bernard Show, and Alexander Vampilov will take place in the conference hall at 19:00. It is staged by the Chamber Drama Theatre (Vologda) under the direction of Jacob Rubin. The ticket costs 200 roubles.
A gala concert of the festival will begin on the main stage in the New Town at 20:00. The Governor Orchestra of Folk Instruments under the direction of Honoured Artist of Russia Galina Perevoznikova, the vocal ensemble “White Lake”, soloists Artyom Polkovnikov and Anastasia Orlova will perform in it. Distinguished guests of the event will appear on stage: Honoured Artist of Russia Valentina Berezutskaya; People’s Artist of Russia, director Nikolay Dostal; actors Sergey Makarov and Vyacheslav Glushkov, artist and actor Sergey Kurakin, actor and director Roman Artemiev. It is planned that the festival will come to an end at 22:00.
