The exhibition marking the 400th anniversary of the crowning of the first Romanov tsar – Mikhail Fyodorovich - was opened in the House of the Father Superior of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve in January.
The history of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Russia, was closely connected with this dynasty. Representatives of the Romanovs visited both the monastery and the town of Kirillov many times. According to the inventories and other documents, they made generous donations. A part of these things is kept in the museum holdings and many of them are presented in the new exhibition. It illustrates the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich, Alexey Mikhailovich, Peter I, Catherine II, Alexander I, Nickolas I and the last representatives of the dynasty. One more section of the exhibition is about the construction of the Mariinsk Canal System, the important object for the development of the region. It started under Paul I.
The guidebook titled “Monuments of History of the Romanov Dynasty from the Collection of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve” was published in June. It contains information about the exhibits and a historical note about the main events that occurred during the reign of the Romanovs and were directly relevant to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. The guidebook is supplemented with colour photos. You can buy it in the souvenir shops located in the museum expositions.
